Unsurprisingly, divers feed by diving beneath the surface of the water and therefore have large, strong feed for propulsion. They are also predominantly found on freshwater or estuaries, but can also frequent larger open water like bays. They are rapid, strong fliers -- their broad, blunt wings require faster and almost constant wing-beats compared to dabblers. Additionally, they struggle with take-off and often "run" several steps along the water before becoming airborne.
They do not walk well on land because their legs are placed further back than dabblers for better propulsion under water; usually they rest on the water rather than on berms or islands.
